Alcohol is a very serious problem which the human society faces at this time. There is no stratum of the society that is not affected by it. You need to take medical treatment and along with it physiological counseling too as alcohol is a psychosomatic disorder. Several types of physiological treatments have been ascertained for the treatment of alcohol. One method is group therapy session where all alcoholics share there experiences with each other and each person suggests remedies to it. There is a world wide association of such group and is called the alcohol anonymous. The main objective of all alcoholic groups is to stay sober and help each other through the treatment process.

History of alcohol anonymous
This organization was formed in 1965 by bill Wilson and doctor bob smith who both had past problems with alcohol and were still struggling with it. Both from there previous experiences with alcohol knew much about alcoholism and how its process work .so they formed a support community where alcoholics would sit and talk among themselves and support each other in staying sober

Alcohol anonymous believes in the treatment of alcoholism through spiritual awakening .so it can also be termed a religious cult in its own sense. They had formulated a twelve step theory for alcohol treatment. The Steps are designed to help the alcoholic achieve a spiritual, emotional and mental state conducive to lasting sobriety.

The famous twelve step program as defined by the alcohol anonymous group is
1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. We’re entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs
