The problem with alcohol is that while most doctors discourage the use of excessive alcohol but at the same time all of them encourage moderate drinking. This is because moderate drinking helps in maintaining a healthy heart and also at the same have several other beneficial factors. But there is a thin line between moderate and heavy drinking. Nobody can define the parameters of heavy drinking
this is because every persons metabolic rate is different. More ever each person has different kinds of medical conditions that also need to be taken into consideration.
Another very worrying problem with alcohol is that with the increase in regularity of consumption of alcohol the tolerance level of the person to alcohol increases. He now requires more amount of alcohol to get the same effect he used to get with lesser quantity of alcohol. This is because the liver increases its production of the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenate. The increase in enzyme production leads to a faster destabilization of the alcohol, thus leading to a higher rate of absorption and quick exit through excretory organs. The increase in absorption of the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenate is a sure shot sign of alcoholism. Also the rate of absorption of alcohol is dependent on other underlying factors like food intake. for example if a person has eaten food just after or before taking alcohol than the absorption of alcohol will be far much lesser than when alcohol is taken on an empty stomach.
Also absorption rate depends on the strength of the alcohol you have intake. Normally absorption rate is higher when the concentration is between 10% and 30%. Is another important fact is that women have a faster secretion of the enzyme dehydrogenises than man and that too about more than 10%.
So before make any judgment on the amount of drinks that would be termed as moderate drinking check out all the ifs and buts before you take any decision.
